Portsmouth (VA) Silhouettes

The Portsmouth Silhouette’s activities consist of supporting our men in every way possible. We are wives and mothers who have all worked outside the home. Our planned activities were family-related such as a church, sporting events, picnics, and dinner outings. The Ports- mouth Silhouettes have always been supportive of one another. Through our bond, we have stood by one another through the births of babies, christenings, birthday parties, recitals, sports activities, debutante presentations, graduation, weddings, and funerals.

As we continued to mature over our 40-year history, so did the child-rearing and home responsibilities. We continued to assist the Kappas and support all projects when requested. We look forward to attending province meetings and conclaves. We don’t want the Kappas to leave home without us. Our members don’t have to pack as much anymore, in fact, we can shop on the way. Everyone knows that Silhouettes love to shop!

Presently we take shopping trips together, cruise together, participate in retreats, or just go out for a relaxing dinner and movie. We, the members support each other’s sorority projects and even buy Greek tokens for each other when attending our various Regional and Boule conferences. We really do have a good time.

Over the years our projects have been in support of children. We have sponsored Children in Kappa Land, purchased storybooks for pregnant teens to read to their babies, and annually sponsor a Spring dance for disabled students from three high schools in Portsmouth. A yearly scholarship is also given to the disabled students to assist in purchasing supplies and materials. Annually, our chapter prepares and presents food baskets and gift cards to needy families. Making donations to the angel tree during the Christmas Holiday usually closes out our yearly endeavors. These are just a few of the things we do.

The Portsmouth Silhouettes assist our Kappa Men with their dances, scholarship dinners, work as presenters at their youth workshop, host and attend sweetheart outings and continue to do what it takes to keep them looking good and feeling good. Our chapter also makes donations to the Kappa Foundation.

The Portsmouth Silhouettes has received a Certificate for consistency in its number of members, from the Eastern Province and also Certificates of Appreciations were given to two of our charter members, Silhouette Celestine Twitty and Silhouette Maryland Spicely whose service to our chapter has been invaluable. We’re Portsmouth-Suffolk Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and we always do our best for our Kappa men. We thank the Men of the Portsmouth/ Suffolk Alumni chapter for the love and outstanding support of all that we do. We love you, dear Kappas, to you we’ll be true.
