Hampton-Newport News (VA) Silhouettes

The Hampton-Newport News Silhouettes were formed in February 1951. Its history from 1951 to 1998 is currently being finalized. However, after hosting the Eastern

Province Council in 2000, the chapter has a very rich history.  Currently, the local chapter is a member of the Eastern Province and the National Silhouettes.

The Silhouettes play an important support role for the Hampton Newport News Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. Composed of the wives and widows of its members, the Silhouettes support all programs of the Chapter. Of particular note is their ongoing, active participation in the Christmas Party. In 2009, the Children’s Christmas party was added, complete with Santa bearing gifts.

Each year, the Silhouettes have supported a different community project, depending upon the needs of the community. These projects have ranged from the Peninsula Food Bank, the Transitions Family Violence Services After School Program, the Natasha House, Christmas toys for needy children, and the Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni Chapter’s Kappa League. This list is not all-inclusive. Our current project for 2013 – 2014 is the ongoing support of the Hampton-Newport News (VA) Kappa League.

Hampton-Newport News (VA) Silhouette Chapter is home to two Province Officers. In 2009, Silhouette Pinckney was elected the Eastern Province Coordinator, the first for the Tidewater area.

In 2012, Silhouette Sherlonda Blue was elected as the Eastern Province Financial Secretary. Silhouette Pinckney has continued to commit herself to the Silhouette organization and currently serves as the National Financial Secretary.
